May 25 - 26, 2013
Opens at 10:00 a.m.
Cowboy Church starts at 9 a.m. Sunday
For the last three days the Museum has been considering “what ifs” regarding the impact of weather on our 23rd annual Chuck Wagon Gathering & Children’s Cowboy Festival, believing it is in the best interests of our community to go on with this downhome, family friendly event in this time of area crisis caused by recent tornados. Downpours late in the week caused us to once again reconsider our plans.
The unanimous conclusion of management is that “the show must go on,” but we are moving every possible activity into the Museum building for both Saturday and Sunday. There will be no activities on the festival grounds, which means the cancellation in 2013 of chuck wagon cooking, pony rides, stagecoach and horse drawn wagon. Watch for the return of these favorites next year!
The great news is that almost all other activities, entertainers and educational programming WILL go on as planned using Prosperity Junction, the Sam Noble Special Events Center, hallways, Board Room, Children’s Cowboy Corral, etc. to provide a terrific experience for visitors. Even hot dogs will be available for purchase indoors. And, there will be cobbler to sample—while it lasts.
Festival pricing has been discounted to normal admission rates, and we will honor discount coupons and passes. There WILL be Cowboy Church beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday in the Special Events Center. Guests who arrive for Cowboy Church no later than 9:30 a.m. will receive free admission.
Free parking is available in the Museum’s main lot, and free shuttles will run from Remington Park to our front door once the need arises. We can handle a sizeable crowd! You will glad to know that the stew meat already acquired for the event has been donated to the Regional Food Bank to help our neighbors in this time of need.
See you at the festival!
