Chuck Wagon Gathering

24th Annual Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children’s Cowboy Festival

May 24 - 25, 2014
Festival Hours 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Museum Remains Open until 5:00 p.m.

The 24th Annual Chuck Wagon Gathering & Children's Cowboy Festival offers food, fun and entertainment in "The Cowboy Way!" New for 2014, kids 12 and under are admitted free.

Also new and sure to be popular, the Trosper Archery Club will operate an archery area outside the museum's Children's Cowboy Corral. Children can participate in numerous activities: pony rides, rope making, archery, bandana designing and crafting, to name a few. Stagecoach and covered wagon rides are offered around the festival oval, and there will be flintknapping and blacksmithing demonstrations and old West reenactors.

The Ag in the Classroom program offers butter making, and Saturday includes storytelling by Native American Tim Tingle. Inside, watch square dancing by members of the Central District Square Dance Association and meet Roy Rogers' daughter, author Cheryl Rogers Barnett. Dr. H.P. Hedgethicket III, Esq., will again hawk his many "remedies and cures" during a hilarious Old West Medicine Show.

Delicious authentic chuck wagon food samples are served daily by nine chuck wagon crews who cook stew, brisket, sourdough biscuits, beans, cobblers and much more for visitors to taste. Recipe booklets are given to each person admitted into the festival grounds.

Western musical entertainment is slated with an all-star lineup. Saturday's headliner is cowboy balladeer Don Edwards, and Red Steagall performs Sunday. See the full schedule here.

Chuck Wagon activities, along with tasting bowls and Museum admission, are included in the price of admission: adults $15; museum members and children 12-and-under are admitted FREE. No discounts or coupons are redeemable during the festival.

Become a Museum member and receive free admission to the Festival for six guests. For a limited time save $10 on a Premium Family Membership (regularly $75); offer ends May 31.

The festival is anticipated to proceed rain or shine.
