  .9.0022 Originally the shaded area on the map was designed to separate so-called civilized Indians from the 'scalpers,' both types were being moved unwillingly into the Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, all of which once was reserved for them 'as long as grass grows and water flows.' Whites moved into the shaded area, which was unoccupied and cattlemen from Texas also built semi-permanent housing facilities, and grazed the land roundabout, enroute to the rail heads in Kansas. 1--4.5x10 in., B&W

The town of Voorhees was in the approximate vicinity of the present village of Niagara. The word 'Texas' in the lower portion of this map is the name of a county in the Panhandle of Oklahoma.
